What is Rhinoplasty? How It Is Done?
Upper portion of nose is made up of bone and lower portion is made from cartilage. In Rhinoplasty or nose job surgery Plastic surgeon changes shape of the nose by changing shape of cartilage and bone . Plane of the surgery is decided by plastic surgeon by consulting patients and his or hers need. Surgeon also considers other facial features and decide plane of surgery accordingly.
Rhinoplasty can change the size, shape or proportions of your nose. It may be done to repair deformities from an injury, correct a birth defect or improve some breathing difficulties.
In case of large and deviated noses excess of the cartilage and bone is removed in a a way that nose look aesthetically pleasant .In case of small or short nose, it can be increased with help of foreign material such as Silicon or patients own material such as ear or rib cartilage. Harvesting ear cartilage or rib cartilage leads to minimal discomfort to the patients. There are two ways in which Rhinoplasty are done. Open and closed Rhinoplasty .In Closed Rhinoplasty is preferred when there is minimal tip works to be done. In open Rhinoplasty little scar is given at midline of lowermost part of nose. This approach is essential when extensive work is needed on nose. Rhinoplasty is performed under anesthesia either local or general. Many surgeons prefer general anesthesia .after surgery patients is discharged on same day or next.
Post-Operative Care:
After Rhinoplasty in some cased a bandage will be present over the nose for 7 to 10 days. Some amount of swelling of face can be noticed after surgery which will settle down after a month. You will be given oral medication and nasal drops after surgery to fasten the recovery.
