What Is The Skin Whitening Treatment?
Skin whitening is the process by which people reduce the melanin pigment in the skin to give a whiter complexion. Those with dark complexion have more melanin and the quantity of melanin determines the color of a person’s skin. Melanin is produced by cells called melanocytes. The melanin quantity of person’s skin depends upon the genetic buildup. The production of melanin is affected by exposure to the sun, the degree of damaged skin, and exposure to chemicals. There are various methods reduce this melanin deposition in the skin and to make it look a tone or more light and these are creams, lasers, serums, chemicals, oral medications. These products work by disturbing the tyrosinase enzyme which is instrumental for the melanin production and thereby reducing its amount in the skin.
Basically the skin has three layers, the epidermis, the dermis and the subcutaneous layer. The epidermis is what you see, the dermis lies below that and the subcutaneous lies deep down and holds on to the fat.
Topical Treatments
The creams and serums work on the epidermis, that is their effect is mostly on the visible skin. The properties of the creams thus restrict to bleaching or hydrating for glow.
Oral Medications
Next in the line come the oral medications, mainly glutathione based. Glutathione is an antioxidants and it is also responsible for preventing pigmentation by reducing Melanin deposition. Taking glutathione orally helps as the ingredient dissolves in the blood stream and works.
Injectable And Laser Treatments
The most effective solutions are glutathione or Kojic acid based injections and the other is the Laser Treatment. The injections are given directly into the bloodstream and thus get to work immediately bringing changes from within the body. The Lasers on the other hand break down the pigments or work on the tissues to start the process of skin healing. Both of these treatments are comparatively long lasting but they do require booster sessions sometime.

How Long Does It Take To Recover?
The time to recover depends on the type of treatment you undergo for skin whitening. If you go for non-ablative treatment methods then it may take only a day or two to recover. But if you go for surgery such as a laser one then it may take up to 2-3 weeks to recover, following which you will need to adhere to certain post-treatment guidelines to prevent darkening, irritation or sunburn.
